Inaugural Montana Big 5 Super Series This Saturday!

Mission Valley Super Oval is set to host the inaugural Vandoorn Driver Development Montana Big 5 Super Series event, the Big Sky Kubota 100, this Saturday night June 8th. The track will be host to the premier racing division in the northwest, the Super Late Models. Super Late Models are 600 horsepower purpose built racing machines that absolutely fly around the high-banked 3/8 mile asphalt oval track. They will be supported by the INEX Legends and the Hobby Stock Division ensuring a highly exciting night of racing.
When we asked track promoter Tony Undem about this upcoming event he was quick to point out the amount of work that has gone into preparing for this season, “We have been going like crazy over here trying to finish up all of the improvements we have made to the facility this year. We look forward to showing the fans and drivers that are new to our area what a great track we have here.” He continued, “It really has been a team effort to get all of this done, there is no way we could have gotten to where we are right now without the support of the community and the racers.”
In the first race of the season the track had improved car counts from last year’s season opening race and that has Tony optimistic about this upcoming season, “We weren’t really sure how this was going to go in terms of the support divisions, but we had a 13 car INEX Legend field last weekend and about the same in the Hobby Stocks, we expect there to be more cars in both of those divisions this weekend.” When I asked about the anticipated car count for the Kubota 100 he stated, “We have had a really good response from the Super Late Model Division drivers and many of our MVSO Late Model drivers have advanced their program to race in this series. With the help of Travis Sharpe and his team at Racing Dynamiks we think we have developed a racing series drivers will embrace.” When we asked Racing Dynamiks owner Travis Sharpe about this season he had this to say “Man, I never could have imagined how quick this thing took off. We really owe it to the advertising partners that have partnered with our series. Without their trust and support we literally couldn't do it.” He continued "It has been cool to see how folks from all around the region have embraced this idea. We are expecting local drivers as well as drivers from Washington, Idaho and even Canada. It's pretty cool to see all of the work come together."
With all of the excitement surrounding the 2024 race season we thought talking to some drivers that plan to compete in the 2024 Montana Big 5 Super Series would be appropriate. Kalispell based Super Late Model driver Agni Howell took a minute to tell us how excited he was for this year, “There are some great drivers planning on running this year. It’s going to be great competition and I look forward to racing with those guys.” He continued “The series has done a great job securing advertising partners for these events and it is incredible to be able to race for these payouts.”
We spoke to fan favorite Alex Lessor about this upcoming year and this was what he had to say “This series has us pretty excited over here, we have been doing quite a bit of traveling the past couple years to race and it’s nice to be racing back closer to home.” When asked if he plans to run all of the Big 5 events he said “Yes, we are running for points this year. Something we haven’t done in a few years, but we like our chances in our #53 Toby Chassis.” He continued “It’s a pretty cool thing they are putting together over there. I hope we get a ton of cars and the fans show out too.” We know Alex’s fans will be there. He enjoys a loyal fan base and group of supporters that encourage his racing efforts.
Races are set for Saturday June 8th. Gates open at 5:00p for those that wish to catch the last bit of practice. Qualifying is at 6:00p and the racing starts at 7:00p. Don’t miss it! For more information please see the Mission Valley Super Oval website at www.missionvalleysuperoval.com.
